Once on the island I drove to the center and met Dale. We were both joyous at seeing each other! We stopped by his new place briefly and then headed over to the Beach Club for dinner. 

And I love the porch at his new place.

Great day for reading except for the logs the owners were cutting in the driveway with a power say right outside the window all afternoon. Oh, and the mowing of the huge lawn that surrounds this place with a gas powered push mower which only took a couple of hours. I'm in no way bitter.

Dale heated up leftovers for dinner and we had ice cream for dessert. At least all the noise was over by the time we ate.

Scrambled to make the 8:00 a.m. ferry and succeeded!! Athena and I stopped at a wayside in Cornucopia (Wisconsin's northernmost town) on Highway 13. The morning sun gave the surroundings a soft, warm glow.  The water isn't looking brown like it did when we stopped near here on our way up.

Striking how brown Lake Superior is looking. It reminds me of the chocolate river in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The brown-ness is due to the heavy storms from a week and a half ago and the iron in the the soil pushed in from the rising rivers (as best I understand it). As we drove out of Ashland I snapped these shots with my camera.

Brenda and Irv arrived this morning and it's so wonderful to have them here. Dale had to work this morning but he stopped over around noon to say hello. After he went back to work, Brenda and Irv took me to lunch at the Beach Club. We had a booth in the back that overlooked the lake and had some time to catch up. So good to see them!

Looking toward the Wisconsin mainland. What a gorgeous day.

Fran and Charlie took us to dinner tonight at The Pub. I had the whitefish and it was fantastic. I ordered a martini to start and Charlie began with a Maker's Mark Manhattan. Bless his heart.

Reconnaissance 2014

Dale's on the Island this weekend for his yearly pre-season reconnaissance. He texted me this photo of ice on the lake from his ferry ride over. I don't believe there has still been ice on the lake in May in a good number of years.
