First Visit 2012 - Day 2 Part 3: Glass Bottom Boat

Chris and Alyn obtained tickets for a lake tour in what was billed as a glass bottomed boat. They, Ellis, and I (Dale had to work) boarded the boat in Bayfield around 2 p.m. We left shortly thereafter and quickly headed past the islands of Basswood and Hermit. Our destination was Stockton Island where we saw remains of a boat that sank back in 1895. Although the entire bottom of the boat was not glass there were a couple of glass bottomed sections near the front that offered views of what was underneath.

Walker Recall

Tommy's Burned Down always displays some very interesting art. When I snapped this shot in 2011 I didn't make the political connection but still thought the idea of a walker recall was funny.

La Pointe School

The La Pointe School is a Kindergarten through 6th grade setting. Students in the higher grades need to take the ferry or ice boat to Bayfield for instruction.

Lilacs

The lilacs here at home in Minneapolis are starting to fill out. This photo was taken on Madeline Island just under a year ago on June 18, 2011. Obviously the Island is usually just a little bit behind us.

Big Bay Town Park 2

From Wikipedia: "Big Bay Town Park offers camping and is free to the public. It has access to the longest beach on the island and adjoins the Big Bay State Park. With help from the summer's sun, the surface water temperature in the sheltered bay can rise to 70 degrees F while the water just off shore might remain a frigid 50 degrees." Lori's Store

Lori's is a store with a little bit of everything. It reminds me of the old PDQ or Tom Thumb stores except they sell a fairly decent variety of liquor and a limited amount of produce. Dale will usually do a big grocery shopping at the Walmart in Bayfield but Lori is always there if you're running low on anything. Above photo taken in 2011.
