Island 2018 - Second Trip Fourth Day: Cornucopia

Friday, July 13, 2018

Stopped at the Wayside in Cornucopia, WI so Athena could pee. Checked out some of the old fishing boats.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Fourth Day: Departure

Friday, July 13, 2018

Barely made it on the 9:00 ferry to begin the trip back home. Due to some humongous oil rig type thing taking up about a third of the boat we just squeaked on board. They had to angle me just so and couldn't close the back all the way. I was the last car to make it on.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Fourth Day: Last Full Day

Thursday, July 12, 2018

Last full day on the Island for the summer. Great trip and will miss having such easy access to Dale!

Island 2018 - Second Trip Fourth Day: Winding Down for the Day

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Dale made salmon open faced sandwiches for dinner. We then took Athena out for her final walk of the evening.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Fourth Day: Feeding Athena

Wednesday, July 11, 2018
Dale came home from work as I was feeding Athena out on the deck.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Fourth Day: Cigar Time

Wednesday, July 11, 2018
Cigar time.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Fourth Day: Grandpa Tony's

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Went to Grandpa Tony's for lunch. I got the BLT. I love the bread they use which is made on site.

Sat inside as opposed to the rooftop. Nice view of the lake which looked pretty despite the lack of sun.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Fourth Day: Smells

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Gloomy day today however that didn't stop Athena and me from taking some nice walks.

She's so intrigued by all the different smells up here. Many more animals than in the city I'm sure.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Fourth Day: Noise

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

At around 9 a.m. this morning it sounded like someone started a semi-truck in Dale's backyard. I glanced outside and noticed the sound seemed to be coming from the building across the way. Well, the "semi-truck" was very loud and ran for about an hour. I don't think the amount of noise is any different than any other year so I'm not sure why I'm so sensitive to it this visit. Maybe because I'm trying to pay a bit more attention to my own self care than usual. I just find it odd that the noise in this town is louder that what I experience in my own city neighborhood.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Fourth Day: Pop Tarts

Wednesday, July 11, 2018
I picked up some Pop Tarts, one of my childhood favorites, on the grocery store run Dale and I made yesterday. It's been a few years since I've had one but that changed this morning. After it popped out of the toaster I slathered it with better. It didn't last long.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Third Day: Dinner

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

This sweet guy made me dinner on the grill: brats and broccoli. It was great. After dinner I got us ice cream. It was in the freezer. I scooped it into bowls. By myself. So there's that.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Third Day: Cocktails

Tuesday, July 10, 2018
Had planned on heading to the Beach Club for happy hour but changed my mind. I mean why sit inside on a gorgeous day? Instead I headed to Lori's Store and picked up some rum and Diet Coke, headed home and sat on the deck. Dale was on a bike ride but eventually joined me. Oh, and cool Hawaiian shirt I picked up in Ashland, right?

Island 2018 - Second Trip Third Day: Ashland Run

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

Dale home from work early so we could head to the mainland to do grocery shopping. We stopped in Bayfield so I could get a chocolate peanut cluster at the Sweet Sailing shop before heading down to Ashland. Once in Ashland we stopped at Deep Water Grill for lunch and then headed to the supermarket for vittles.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Third Day: Blueberry Muffin

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

After Athena's walk I hightailed it to Mission Hill Coffee for one of Marie's famous homemade blueberry muffins. I commented to her how nice and quiet it was in the shop. Based on what she told me I think she was enjoying the post 4th of July lull. She recounted how crazy the whole week had been. With the holiday falling on a Wednesday it was like there were two 5-day weekends to pick from on either end of the big day. I wouldn't be surprised is some folks just took the whole week off. She also mentioned that demanding and entitled customers are really at an epidemic level this year. I told her that based on some of the things I've seen I had to agree with her. One example was a man at the Beach Club who asked the bartender if she'd go to the shop across the street and buy cigars for him. Another example was a woman who drove onto the ferry to Bayfield, left her car to go get coffee and kept the ferry waiting while she was gone.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Third Day: Morning Walk

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

Morning walk with Athena.

The warm morning sun casts such a lovely glow over everything.

Island 2018 - Second Trip Second Day: Noise

Monday, July 8, 2018

Great day for reading except for the logs the owners were cutting in the driveway with a power say right outside the window all afternoon. Oh, and the mowing of the huge lawn that surrounds this place with a gas powered push mower which only took a couple of hours. I'm in no way bitter.

Dale heated up leftovers for dinner and we had ice cream for dessert. At least all the noise was over by the time we ate.
