Madeline Island Trip 2020 - Lodging in. Bruce, Wisconsin

 Monday, August 17, 2020

Maggie and Cindi’s place (not shown above) is on the Chippewa River. They recently bought the adjacent property which has this rustic looking trailer on it. This is where we’ll be staying. Maggie and Cindi have named it The Bear Lodge.

After settling in and having a quick dinner Dale and I walked next door to visit Maggie, Cindi, and their kids. They’re all so excited to have us visit. It’s so nice to be wanted!! Photos taken at about 8 p.m.

Madeline Island Trip 2020 - More of the Drive

 Monday, August 17, 2020

Almost to Maggie and Cindi’s. This photo similar to the one in the previous post except this one taken from the car while just outside Bruce, Wisconsin about an hour and a half later. The corn’s almost as high as an elephant’s eye.

Island 2017 - 3rd Trip Day 1: The Drive In Restaurant

Friday, July 21, 2017

Warren and Gary picked me up around noon to head up to Madeline. On the way, we stopped at The Drive In Restaurant in Grantsburg, Wisconsin for lunch. Yes, the name of the drive in restaurant is The Drive In Restaurant. The decor is 1950s and the food very good. I had a cheeseburger and fries. Warren and I each ordered a root beer float. My understanding is they make their root beer on site. It's pretty awesome.
I've been driving by their giant root beer mug for years so it was fun to finally stop and check the place out.

Island 2017 - 2nd Trip Day 11: Departure

Monday, July 10, 2017

Walk down Nebraska Row with Athena this morning.

Made it on the 10 o'clock ferry, but barely. I think I was the second to last car to get on.

Athena settled right in as the ferry pulled away.

Pleasantly long stay on Madeline this trip. Ten nights in nothing to sneeze at especially considering I don't think I've stayed more than six nights before. Always great to spend much needed  time with Dale and to have visits from Fran and Charlie and also Brenda and Irv.

Island 2017 - 2nd Trip Day 10: Deepwater Grill

Sunday, July 9, 2017

We took advantage of Dale having the day off to go to Ashland to pick up lunch and some grocery staples to get him through the next couple weeks.  We had lunch at the Deepwater Grille on Main Street.

Also stopped in Bayfield to get me a latte at Big Water Coffee Roasters.

Madeline Island 2015: First Trip Day 1 - Departure and Arrival

Thursday, July 2, 2015

Left today to visit Dale Up North. Had meant to be out of the house by noon but was on the road by 1:45. Coulda done worse, I suppose. I only stopped once between Minneapolis and Bayfield which was pretty good.

Fran and Charlie are coming up tomorrow for the weekend which is why Athena is in the kennel. Dale thought she might be a little overwhelming for them.

Made the 7:00 p.m. ferry so I was on the Island by about 7:25. Dale's thinking that by tomorrow they'll be running the ferries pretty much nonstop as it gets pretty crazy up here for the 4th of July holiday.

Dale and I went to the Pub for dinner. We both had the whitefish and it was delicious. I ordered and old fashioned for a cocktail. Our server asked if I wanted brandy in it (the Wisconsin version) but I told her I better start with the familiar and go the bourbon route. For my second one I told her I'd go with brandy. When we left I told her I liked the brandy version better. "See," she said, "You must have just enough Wisconsin in you."
