Island 2018 - First Trip Seventh Day: Heading Home

Scrambled to make the 8:00 a.m. ferry and succeeded!! Athena and I stopped at a wayside in Cornucopia (Wisconsin's northernmost town) on Highway 13. The morning sun gave the surroundings a soft, warm glow. The water isn't looking brown like it did when we stopped near here on our way up.

Made it on the 2 pm ferry from Bayfield back to the Island. Not bad since we left the Island this morning around 10 am.

Striking how brown Lake Superior is looking. It reminds me of the chocolate river in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The brown-ness is due to the heavy storms from a week and a half ago and the iron in the the soil pushed in from the rising rivers (as best I understand it). As we drove out of Ashland I snapped these shots with my camera.

Dale got off work early today. We took the ferry to the mainland to do some grocery shopping in Ashland. Dale indulged me and we stopped by a few of my favorite shops in Bayfield first.

After breakfast Dale had to skedaddle to work but Fran and Charlie had a little time to do some shopping before catching their ferry. We tried stopping at Madeline Island Candles but they were closed. We also went to Dockside and then ended up at Wood's Hall where Fran bought a bangle. Lots of interesting stuff in there.

Breakfast with Fran and Charlie at Farmhouse (the former Ella's) They've really got some wonderful food there. I had the hash which was sweet potato, parsnip's, potato, carrots, and onion, topped by two eggs. Divine!!
Island 2018 - First Trip Third Day: Chamber Concert

Our friends Fran and Charlie came up today for an overnight visit. We had some wine and cheese on the deck and then headed over to The Pub for dinner. After dinner we went to see the Arianna String Quartet which is part of Madeline Island Chamber Music's 2018 Chamber Music Festival. It was a fantastic concert and featured music by Shostakovich, Bartok, Portnoy, and Brahms.
