Went to Grandpa Tony's for lunch. I got the BLT. I love the bread they use which is made on site.

Sat inside as opposed to the rooftop. Nice view of the lake which looked pretty despite the lack of sun.

Warren and Gary picked me up around noon to head up to Madeline. On the way, we stopped at The Drive In Restaurant in Grantsburg, Wisconsin for lunch. Yes, the name of the drive in restaurant is The Drive In Restaurant. The decor is 1950s and the food very good. I had a cheeseburger and fries. Warren and I each ordered a root beer float. My understanding is they make their root beer on site. It's pretty awesome. 

I've been driving by their giant root beer mug for years so it was fun to finally stop and check the place out.

Brenda and Irv took Dale and me to breakfast at The Farmhouse (the former Ella's). We all ordered the Farmer's Breakfast which doesn't disappoint.  When you order at the counter they give you a cute plastic animal to help them identify your table when they deliver their food. 

It was great to have Brenda and Irv up for a visit. Sadly, they had to leave right after breakfast. They made the long trip up here from Colorado over the course of a number of days and stopped along the way. That's the way I like to take a road trip. It makes it so much more manageable and humane with no more than 6 hours in the car.

We took Fran and Charlie to breakfast this morning at The Farmhouse (the former Ella's). It was my first time there since the new owners took over Ella's last year. Their farmer's breakfast is quite awesome.

After leaving home around 1:00 p.m. I had a long, uneventful although very pleasant drive up to Madeline. I'm guessing it took about an hour and a half longer than usual partially due to the rerouting of Interstate 94 and other construction but also due to the holiday weekend. I did NOT forget my suitcase this time!

Fran and Charlie, visiting for the weekend, were having cocktails and snacks with Dale when I arrived. They cooked for us a fantastic dinner of grilled steak and roasted vegetables which included brussels sprouts, fennel, red pepper, sweet potato, and onion. Muy delicioso!!

Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: Chili Dog

Dale had to work Friday and since there was nothing substantial to eat in the house I made tracks to the Beach Club for lunch. There was a chili dog on the menu and since I hadn't had one in years I decided to go for it. I'm glad I did because it was heaven.

Dale and I had cocktails on the porch and then went over to The Beach Club for dinner. Despite already having eaten a fish sandwich for lunch I decided to have another one for dinner. Dale got one too and we both ordered the whitefish (since I had had trout for lunch). When the fish is good, the fish is good.
