Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: Apostle Island's Inline Marathon
On Sunday morning it was fun to watch the crowds of inline skaters gather together before the beginning of the Apostle Islands Inline Marathon. Watching the event begin was exciting too.

Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: Chili Dog
Dale had to work Friday and since there was nothing substantial to eat in the house I made tracks to the Beach Club for lunch. There was a chili dog on the menu and since I hadn't had one in years I decided to go for it. I'm glad I did because it was heaven.
Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: Seaplanes
Friday June 14, 2013
I noticed a few different seaplanes tethered to the shore near the Beach Club around noon. After Dale got home from work we took Athena for a walk and noticed the them flying around.
Madeline Island 2013: First Visit: Drinks and Dinner
Thursday June 13, 2013
Dale and I had cocktails on the porch and then went over to The Beach Club for dinner. Despite already having eaten a fish sandwich for lunch I decided to have another one for dinner. Dale got one too and we both ordered the whitefish (since I had had trout for lunch). When the fish is good, the fish is good.

Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: Goldie Fawn
Thursday June 13, 2013
On my quest for a blueberry muffin I met a new friend. I left the house for Mission Hill at about 7 a.m. and felt something breeze by the back of leg. I figured it was a rabbit but when I turned around I saw it was the adorable fawn pictured above. She let me look at her for awhile. Later in the day when I left the house to walk to the grocery store she whisked behind me again. I decided to name her Goldie Fawn.
Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: Bayfield Shopping 2
Thursday June 13, 2013
Another favorite store of mine in Bayfield is Sweet Sailing. There is a huge selection of candy including many things they make themselves. I stopped in and picked up a peanut cluster and a chocolate covered pretzel (pictured top right). It was hard to access the store due to the construction outside on Rittenhouse Avenue (pictured top left) but I found a way in. The store also sells a huge amount of taffy (pictured bottom).

In Bayfield I made a stop at Roxanne's which is one of my favorite stores. I found this deer bust which I thought would look great in our porch back home.
Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: Maggie's in Bayfield 2
Thursday June 13, 2013
While at Maggie's I had to go with the fish sandwich. I ordered the trout with sweet potato fries. The fries were excellent - very crunchy, not soggy.

Once I got to Bayfield I had a hankering to eat at Maggie's for lunch. The food is always good.

Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: Bayfield Visit
On Thursday June 13, I took a jaunt over to Bayfield for lunch and some shopping. Dale had to work so I was on my own. The above photos are from my ferry ride over.
Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: View at the Pub
We had a window table when we ate at The Pub on Wednesday June 12. This was our view of the setting sun.
Madeline Island 2013: First Visit - Nebraska Row
It's so nice having Athena on the Island with us. Early on the morning of Wednesday June 12, I took her on a long walk up Nebraska Row. She loves walking on the Island. There are so many new smells for her to get excited about.
Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: Joe and Dale
I took this photo of the two of us after having dinner at The Pub on Wednesday June 12. Dale had the whitefish and I had the prime rib.

Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: A Lovely Day
Athena got lots of walks today and I got in lots of studying. When Dale got home from work I impressed him with a magic card trick. Boy, did I have him stumped. Cocktails and dinner at the Pub. I had prime rib and Dale had the whitefish. Very delicious.
Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: Mission Hill Coffee
Mission Hill has the best blueberry muffins EVER. I'd been dreaming of the one I bought this morning for the last few days.

Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: Bayfield
When I pulled into Bayfield yesterday I was surprised to find the main drag all torn up. Will it be all fixed up by the 4th of July when tourist season here kicks into high gear? Time'll tell.

Madeline Island 2013 - First Visit: The Trip Up
We left home about 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday June 11. The drive for Athena's first ever trip to the Island went very well. She was an absolute lamb in the car. Dale let me know how excited he was to see us and the feeling was mutual. We didn't make the 5:30 ferry ride so I gave Athena a nice walk as we waited for the one at 7:00 p.m. We made it to La Pointe around 7:30. When Athena saw Dale she went insane with excitement.

Madeline 2013 - Bears
Athena and I are looking forward to seeing Dale on the Island soon. He recently made this post on his blog.
"Looking on the bright side"
"I may complain about being on this little island sometimes, but there are other times when it's pretty cool. I just got back from a 20 mile bike ride to the north end of the island. When I left the south end (where I live), it was 62 degrees and sunny. When I got to the north end 35 minutes later, a huge fog bank rolled in from the lake and the temperature dropped to 42 degrees. I was not dressed appropriately, but even though I was cold. I really kind of like that big change in weather within just a few miles."
"The past three days I've been running in the morning before 6:00. I have not seen one person during those runs. I've seen deer. I've seen fox. I've caught a glimpse of a bear. And even though I'm not a birder, I can't help but notice the huge variety of birds and birdsong during those runs."
