Island 2018 - Second Trip Second Day: Blue Jays

Monday, July 9, 2018

Neither Dale nor I slept particularly well last night. We were both out of bed by 4:30 a.m.
I've been hearing lots of blue jays on the Island this year. Their cry is so distinctive. Mom always told me when I was little that you hear them more frequently when rain is imminent. The above artwork is by John James Audubon and is circa the 1830s.

Island 2016 - First Trip Day 3: Blue Jay

Saturday, June 18, 2016

Yesterday as Dale, Athena, and I were walking home from retrieving my credit card at The Pub, we saw a beautiful blue jay hanging pretty close to the ground along Main Street. I'm always impressed with how big they really are when seen up close. The above image was on a sweat shirt on sale at Mission Hill.

(Note: the truck cab pictured above is no longer on Main Street. It hasn't been for a few years.)

Island 2014 - Watch For Animals

This season I saw deer (not uncommon), fox (a bit less common), loon (have maybe seen them once or twice up here), and a blue jay (don't recall having seen one on the Island before).
